WHAT WE HAVE DONE THIS YEAR-
As a business, we are very aware of the impact we are having on the environment. We are actively looking for ways we can minimise our carbon footprint through increased sustainability. With the end of the year rapidly approaching, we are taking time reflect on the progress we have made over the last 12 months.
In 2022 we have taken a number of sustainable development measures. These help us to meet our goal of being a carbon neutral business by 2030. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Transitioning to electric vans- 2 vans on our fleet are already full electric; another is due by the end of December 2022 and another expected by the end of January 2023.
- Installing solar PV panels and battery storage at our business premises– this enables us to not be dependent on grid supply and non-renewable un-sustainable energy sources.
- The planting of 1,200 trees in 2022 with a commitment to plant 10,000 trees by 2030.
- Working with major wholesalers to reduce unnecessary packaging. We are currently working on a project that would see a 60-80% reduction on single use plastic packaging and have developed multi use, recyclable and decomposing bag that Rexel Wholesalers now use in store.
- Implementing a Birth to End of life waste management system; to ensure, where possible, products are not only procured through sustainable sources but also ensure that used materials and products are responsibly recycled.
- Investing in and offering solar PV to new and existing clients. This enables us to help others reduce their carbon usage and global impact through decreased reliance on fossil fuels
- Reducing our paper usage in the office and in our distribution with a push towards online quotes, invoices and documentation.
