Football Against Dementia

Dementia is an issue that has affected many of our lives (including members of the Bison team) in one way or another, whether through a friend, family member, colleague etc. Many people affected by dementia feel vulnerable and isolated- Football Against Dementia is working to fix that.

Football Against Dementia is a Community Interest Company based in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk established in 2017. This company has evolved significantly since 2017, going from small voluntary projects to community-wide engagement and fundraisers. The work this company is doing and their origin story has truly touched us here at Bison, so we reached out to founder Trevor Saunders to get some more information and see how we could help.

Our project is designed to replicate a ‘Football Club’ we aim to grow and progress through the leagues and face the challenges which come our way.

From the outset we realised that former professional and amateur footballers are adversely affected by dementia. And that there is a real passion and determination within the football family to help people and bring about long term sustainable change and support to anyone affected by dementia.

It is clear to us that the 850,000 people who have dementia in the UK is only a small part of the number who have to live with the disease on a daily basis. Our club aims to help everyone.”

– Trevor Saunders, Founder

Having a personal stake in dementia due to his mother being affected, Trevor has always been eager to help other people facing dementia both directly and indirectly. Traditionally, this has been through football fundraising and food banks, but now Football Against Dementia is looking to provide even more support to those affected by dementia with a wide directory.

This directory project is aimed to help those suffering with dementia who are still living in their own homes. Trevor is asking for businesses across Norfolk to get involved and agree to be listed that in the directory as being ‘dementia aware’, easing the stress of household works for the homeowner and their carer/s. Bison Electrical Services, as well as a range of other local businesses are joining the cause to help those affected by dementia wherever possible.

Any business that can offer their normal service whilst still being aware of the customers circumstances are strongly encouraged to participate, and can sign up using the link below.
