We are thrilled to announce that Bison Electrical Services is officially a Carbon Net Zero Business- 7 years earlier than we had anticipated!
That’s right we are carbon neutral! Meaning we are removing as much carbon from the atmosphere than we are producing.
It has been quite the journey reaching this stage; as a local electrical company based in Beccles, Suffolk, we knew it was ambitious to aim to be a net zero business by 2030, but never did we think we could achieve this goal 7 years early!
We are bursting with pride at this monumental accomplishment and want to thank all our customers and staff for supporting us on this carbon reduction journey.
How did we achieve it?
If you have been following us for a while, you will know that 2022 was a big year for us in the steps we took to reduce our carbon emissions and become a carbon net zero business (read more here).
One of the biggest changes we made was transitioning to electric vehicles. To start we replaced 2 diesel vans with electric ones, saving a huge amount of harmful carbon emissions. Since changing the vans in 2022, we have changed another 2 vehicles to electric and plan on increasing this number even further.
We also heavily invested in solar energy and solar PV battery storage for both ourselves and our customers. We installed solar battery storage at our office, heavily reducing our reliance on the grid, meaning we now run primarily off renewable energy. By offering solar battery storage to our customers, we are also helping reduce their reliance on non-renewable sources. We are eager to develop this service further and look forward to diversifying even more into renewable energy.
We made several other changes that also contributed to our carbon reduction, such as limiting our paper usage and switching to digital documentation as opposed to physical copies.
The biggest contributor to our success of becoming a carbon net zero business was the planting of 800 trees at Somerleyton Estate. This is the start of an initiative we want to implement every year to ensure we are helping the surrounding environment to the best of our ability as an SME.
Even though we have achieved our goal of being carbon net zero, our journey hasn’t finished yet… our next goal is to be carbon negative- updates coming soon.
