With the end of the year quickly approaching, we have been looking back on our sustainability achievements for 2023 and setting our ‘green goals’ for 2024… we’re going to be a busy Bison team that’s for sure!
So what did we do this year? Well…..
Towards the start of the year, we expanded our renewable electrical services to offer solar panel maintenance, showing the ease of the systems and encouraging more people to switch to renewable energy sources and cut back on fossil fuel consumption.
We also installed an EV charger at our office premises to charge our expanded electric vehicle fleet! 4 vehicles down, 5 to go!! On the topic of EV chargers, we installed lots across Waveney this year, of all shapes, colours and sizes. It is great to see so many people switching to electric vehicles and doing their bit to help the environment, we hope the numbers continue to grow into 2024.
The most notable sustainability achievement this year (2023) was of course our reaching carbon net zero! Through our electric vehicles, solar energy-powered office, tree planting initiatives, etc we were able to achieve our zero carbon emissions goal 7 years early! This was such a great accomplishment for us as a business, being the only carbon-neutral electrical company in the Waveney District.
Another highlight of our year was our win of the UK Business Awards Suffolk Sustainability award (you can read more about this here). We are still overjoyed that our efforts were recognised not only by UK Business Awards but also by the Suffolk Chamber of Commerce and East Suffolk Council for the Lowestoft and Waveney 2023 Business Awards where we made it as a finalist for their Net Zero Champions award!!
With 2023 covered, what are our plans for 2024?
As with every year, 2024 marks 365 (+1 for the leap year) days to reduce our carbon footprint even further and get closer to that carbon-negative goal! Our specific goals are as follows:
- We aim to plant a further 1012 trees (0.5 trees for each year 1012/0.5 = 2024)
- Another goal for the coming year is to upgrade at least 1 other van to electric making half of our fleet 100% fossil fuel-free
- Across the business we want to reduce single-use plastics by a further 30%
- In 2024 we want to become an accredited Net Zero business with the Carbon Charter so stay tuned for updates on our progress
As a business we’re definitely going to be busy with day-to-day operations and managing our sustainability targets, but we know it is always worth it for the sake of the planet! Keep an eye out on our socials and this blog for updates on our progress throughout the year to come.
